Where would you like to start?
Family law covers a broad range of situations, including separation and divorce, dividing property and superannuation, arrangements for children, and matters involving family violence and personal safety. Some matters can be resolved by agreement between the parties, while others may need to go before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia or, for apprehended violence orders, the NSW Local Court.
Every family's circumstances are different, and the information on this page is general in nature. It is not a substitute for advice tailored to your situation — we encourage you to speak with a family lawyer about your particular circumstances as early as possible.

The process
What the process generally looks like
Every matter is different and steps may vary. This is a general guide only, not legal advice about your circumstances.
- 01
Initial Consultation
We discuss your circumstances, priorities and concerns, and explain the general options available to you.
- 02
Gathering Information
Relevant financial, parenting or other information is identified and collected to support your matter.
- 03
Negotiation
Where possible, we aim to reach agreement with the other party, often through direct negotiation, mediation or family dispute resolution.
- 04
Formalising Agreements
Where agreement is reached, we help prepare appropriate documents, such as consent orders or a financial agreement, to make arrangements binding.
- 05
Court Proceedings (if needed)
If agreement cannot be reached, we can represent you in proceedings before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia or, for AVO matters, the NSW Local Court.
